2007 Q7 4.2 TDI Loosing coolant and running cold – 27-11-2018, 08:46 PM. Hi, newbie so forgive me if this has already been done to death. I have a 2007 Q7 4.2 TDI. Love the car however there is this one niggle regarding the coolant. Since buying it (Oct) it has been steadily loosing coolant, at first it was an expansion tank per week.

There have been more than two versions of the Audi V8, they actually go back to 1988, with a 3.6L 32v belt-drive, then a 4.2L version, then the 3.7 and 4.2 32v used in the early A8's, etc etc. I've owned three different Audi V8 engines; 3.6L (PT), early 4.2L (ABH) and the 4.2L (BAR) found in the Q7.
I am a new forum member & planning to buy a 2008 Q7 TDI in the next couple of months in Australia. I would welcome any advice on whether the extra cost of the 4.2 TDI is justified over the 3.0 TDI. Also, has anyone had experience with a performance chip in the 3.0 or 4.2 TDI.

1- Air Intake tubes, the large center piece and each side going to the air filer boxes. 2- Detach the fuel lines going to the high pressure fuel pumps. 3- Remove the Oil Seperater / PVC hoses - be careful not to damage these, very expensive to replace. 4- Detach various hoses - noting their location.
The 4.2 Tdi V8 is a generally good unit, and a good match for the car. Gives it some surprising "go" for only a marginal penalty at the pumps compared with the 3.0 Tdi. Look out for DPF sensor
